Aktilite CL128 Lamp

The Aktilite CL128 lamp with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is intended for use in photodynamic therapy in combination with Metvix (methyl aminolevulinate) cream 160mg/g. The LED array is placed in a rectangular pattern and is coupled to a matching array of lenses that produce a collimated red light beam. The lamp emits a light of high uniformity with a narrow spectrum at approximately 630nm, which can be adjusted by a control panel. The light dose used is 37 J/cm2 and is combined with Metvix cream. The dose is averaged over the treatment area. To be used with professional protective glasses and patient protective goggles

Alacare

After topical application of 5-aminolevulinic acid, protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) accumulates intracellularly in the treated actinic keratosis lesions. The intracellular PPIX is a photoactive, fluorescing compound and, upon light activation in the presence of oxygen, singlet oxygen is formed which causes damage to cellular compartments of the light-exposed target cells, in particular the mitochondria.

Aldara

Cream containing 5% imiquimod, an immune response modifier that is effective against viral infections and acts as an anti-tumour agent, principally by induction of alpha interferon and other cytokines.

Alhydran

A specialist after-care treatment for the treatment and hydration of burnt, damaged or vulnerable skin immediately after wound closure. Alitretinoin (Toctino)

Contains a retinoid alitretinoin. The pharmacological action of retinoids may be explained by their effects on cell proliferation, cell differentiation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, keratinisation, sebum secretion and immunomodulation. Unlike other retinoids, which are specific agonists of either RAR or RXR receptors, alitretinoin binds to members of both receptor families. The mechanism of action of alitretinoin in chronic hand eczema is unknown. Alitretinoin has demonstrated immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects that are relevant to skin inflammation

Anabact Gel

Contains 0.75% metronidazole, which is an established antibacterial agent. It is effective against a variety of organisms including anaerobic bacteria.

Anhydrol Forte

Anhydrol Forte contains aluminium chloride hexahydrate, which is believed to denature the protein content of sweat issuing from eccrine glands, and to combine with the intraductal keratin fibrils, producing a functional closure. The antibacterial action of the aluminium ion also precludes the development of miliaria. Accordingly, there is no secondary inflammation. The intraluminal pressure rises to the point where it acts as a feedback system, shutting off acinar secretion
